In round 6, all-time great Viktor Korchnoi made his 4NCL debut for Beeson Gregory I. In a nail-biting match, Korchnoi's win against Moldovan GM Viktor Bologan proved to be the decisive moment as Beeson Gregory managed to squeeze past Wood Green I by the narrowest of margins.

Bologan got very short of time at both controls. At move 51 he had only 32 seconds left to reach move 60. Korchnoi had about an hour in hand and was moving almost instantly to put the pressure on.
