Title Norms

As we are approaching the final weeks of this season’s very exciting 4NCL, I thought it would be an idea to remind everyone of the present rules relating to title norms:

How many games do I need to play?

Rule 1.41a states that a player must play a minimum of 9 games.

Do my opponents need to come from a number of federations?

This is covered by Rule 1.43 (a)(b)(c)(d) and more specifically 1.43 (e). As rule 1.43(e) is met by this year’s event, individuals do not need to be concerned about the nationality of their opponents.

To achieve a Title Norm, how many titled players do I need to play?

This question is answered by Rules 1.45 and 1.7. Importantly, for a title norm to apply, at least 50% of the opponents need to be title holders (Rule 1.45a) - Excluding CM and WCM. In addition:

GM Norm - At least 3 of the opponents must be GMs

IM Norm - Any combination from:
a) 2 GMs
b) 2 IMs + 1 GM
c) 3 IMs

WGM Norm - Any combination from:
a) 2 GMs
b) Any 3 from GM, IM, WGM, FM

WIM Norm - Any combination from:
a) 3 WIMs
b) Any 2 from GM, IM, WGM, FM

If a player achieves all of the above, how many points are required?
