Press Release

2004/05 season
Weekend 4
Divisions 1 and 2

Divisions 1 and 2 played rounds seven and eight at the West Bromwich Moat House on the weekend of 9th and 10th April. Although nothing has been decided yet, the penultimate weekend has clarified the title and relugation issues.

In Division 1, Wood Green 1 and Guildford-ADC1 continued on their imperious way, maintaining their 100% records. Wood Green will take a narrow lead of two game points into the final weekend and, with Guildford still having to play third-placed Barbican 4NCL 1, they may feel that they are slight favourites. Still, as last season, it all looks likely to come down to the final round match-up.

Two heavy defeats to Wood Green 1 and 2 leave Numerica 3Cs 1 at the foot of the table, with Bristol 1 and Wessex 1 also in the drop zone. But the final weekend will see quite a few matches between teams in the bottom half of the table, and a couple of wins will probably be sufficient for any of these teams to escape relegation. It seems like the relegation issue goes to the wire every year, and this season promises to be no different.

In Division 2, Hilsmark Kingfisher 1 and Slough Sharks 1 consolidated their position at the top of the table and now look pretty much certain to be promoted. Third-placed Barbican 4NCL 2 slipped up in their match against Warwickshire Select - a 3 1/2-4 1/2 defeat in a match featuring only one decisive game!

At the bottom of Division 2, it now looks like three from Mindsportsltd.com, Kings Head, Bristol 2 and North West Eagles 2. Although Mind Sports prop up the table, they still have to play two of their closest rivals in the final weekend matches.

Divisions 1 and 2 will conclude on the May Bank Holiday - 30th April, 1st and 2nd May, at West Bromwich.
