Simon Ansell reports on Weekend 2 - "Normal service was resumed for the big teams at the first 4NCL weekend of 2013. Wood Green’s difficult first weekend was previously reported in detail, but now they scored two 5-3 victories against Cambridge University and Barbican to return to the top of Pool A. Jonathan Rowson was in good form, scoring 2/2 on board two for the reigning champions ... "

OBE for Mike Truran

15.1.2013 - We are delighted to hear that 4NCL Finance Director Mike Truran was awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours.

 

His tireless work on behalf of the chess community is well documented and worthy of honour in its own right. This particular award is for services to Bioscience and leaves much of the 4NCL community awestruck at the range of his contributions to public life. Well done, Mike!

Junior 4NCL 2012/13

 

The first J4NCL weekend was hosted and sponsored by Puma Hotels Hinckley Island and Daventry Court.

The 4NCL provides FREE chess tuition between rounds for all competitors.

This coaching enabled games to be analysed by eading masters and professional coaches who were on hand to answer questions.

Division 3 South: Change of venue

03.08.12 - The first Division 3 South weekend on 3-4 November 2012 has been transferred from De Vere Latimer Place to De Vere Wokefield Park. Bedroom reservations that have already been made will be transferred over automatically, and bedroom reservation contact details will be posted on the Hotels page as soon as they are available for those who still need to make reservations - Mike Truran.

Best Annotated Game Prize - Reminder 

13.07.12 - The 4NCL will be offering three prizes of £50 each for the best annotated games from the 4NCL 2011/2012 season, and we should be glad to receive entries for this competition.

Zukertort Fund - update

 

25.06.12 - The campaign organised by Stuart Conquest for the restoration of the grave of Johannes Zukertort (1842-1888), who is buried in Brompton Cemetery, London, has had a pleasing outcome, and the work is now complete.

 

There will be a service of re-dedication on Tuesday, June 26th, at Brompton Cemetery, at 13:00. Everyone is welcome!

16.06.12 - We are pleased to say that Jutes of Kent have confirmed their entry to Division 1 for next season. As usual we're keeping a running list of the teams who have entered, paid fees and registered players to date.

Best Annotated Game Prize - Mike Truran

30.05.12 - The 4NCL will be offering three prizes of £50 each for the best annotated games from the 4NCL 2011/2012 season, and we should be glad to receive entries for this competition.

 

Anyone wishing to enter a game should bear the following in mind:

  1. Please submit entries by the end of July 2012.

  2. Entries will be judged not only on the standards of the play exhibited, but on the level of insight, relevance, possibly humour etc. demonstrated by the annotations.

  3. It is not necessary for the annotator to have been one of the participants in the game, simply that the game needs to have been played in the 4NCL during 2011/12.

  4. Entries should be sent in PGN or Chessbase format please to the and to who has kindly agreed to act as judge for the competition.
